Stargazer Lily
12 year old grey Thoroughbred/Quarter Horse mare.
Eventing and Hunter/Jumpers
My mother, Starlit Skies, was purchased in 2001 at an auction. Her owner did not know that she was pregnant with me. Surprise! One chilly January (13th) morning in 2002, a little chestnut filly was bornMeet Lily!
I spent my first seven years growing up with my mother, Starlit, at Steeldust Farm. There I learned the elements in dressage and jumping and I made a wonderful event horse. I trained at Denny Emerson's farm, Tamarack Hill and competed in Novice events.
Shortly after my seventh birthday, in May, a young thirteen year old girl named Delaney began riding me. She had leased a older grey pony, Joe, for a year before and was ready for a more advanced mount. I showed her the ropes and we practiced in dressage training for several years.
On March 3rd, 2010, Delaney became my momma. She took lessons and we showed in 4-H and pleasure shows. (and Fun Shows!!) We practiced dressage, jumping and in 2011, tried something totally different- barrel racing! It was such fun, but sometimes I would get too wound up to run and it was hard to practice our dressage. (Looking back, the year we rode barrels greatly improved our jumper rounds!)
Two years later, on July 2nd 2012, we did our first event together- Elementary at Hitching Post Farm in South Royalton VT. Later that day, mom brought me home to my new barn, Abenaki Farm. We worked with a new trainer and worked on perfecting our hunter rounds. That summer we showed in events, hunter/jumper shows at Furnace Brook Farm and 4-H shows.
In September, mom and I went all the way to Springfield, MA to compete in the Eastern States Exposition Horse Show (The Big E) I was super excited to ride in the grand coliseum where the Fantasia was held during Equine Affaire. We did very well, pinning a fourth place out of twenty-two riders in the Hunter Over Fences class. We also received eight in Equitation.
That winter, I suffered from a hock injury that carried over lasting approximately 1 1/2 years. Mom (and her mom!) took very good care of me, wrapping my hock, and walking for 15 min twice daily for nearly six months. I visited two local vets, had numerous X-rays and ultrasounds and was ultimately shipped down to New England Equine and became a patient of Dr. Kaneps (later he began his own practice, Kaneps Equine). Finally after injections, testing, stall rest, and light walking I finally began to show signs of improvement!
I began jumping again in the late summer/fall of 2013. I continued to stay active throughout the winter, practicing jumping and participating in an event clinic.
I participated in Beginner Novice events this year, won several jumper classes (2'6" to 3') at Trinity Stable, and went to Furnace Brook Farm.
This June (2014) I moved to my trainer's barn, Stagecoach Hill Farm, and have been loving every minute of it! I get to stay outside 24/7 (except show nights!) and play with my friends! Also I get tons of grain, treats and love! In addition, I got a new (shared) mom!
Delaney left for college in late August 2014 and leased me out to two excited riders that I cannot wait to share new adventures with!
XOXO, LILY
